What’s That Smell?

When I’m stocking up on stuff for our Wag Central chew bar, I’m often asked if I would like to order items that are odor-free, low odor, or have odor. We as humans probably just wince at the thought of smelling a beef trachea or a lamb lung. Certainly doesn’t sound appealing.

But remember! We are giving these to our dogs and they need to be highly desirable. Why? Our chair legs, sneakers, high heels, and rug corners are also pretty desirable—so we’ve gotta fight the good fight. To that end, it doesn’t really bother me that much to have a stinky cow hoof lying around. Especially when I’ve gotta praise my pups or leave them home for a smidge. They’ve got something more appealing to chew on than all the stuff they shouldn’t be chewing on.

At the end of the day, it’s all about setting our dogs up for success. Don’t forget to keep an eye on your pup when you’re trying out a new treat, since some of these items can have choking hazards or small parts. Some of these chewable body parts are better for younger pups than they are for older dogs, heavy active chewers, or dogs just looking to placate themselves. We are happy to help!
